What is iTunes at UA?

The University of Akron has signed an agreement with Apple Inc. to make online content available through iTunes U. This service will allow UA students to easily subscribe to and download podcasts of audio and video content to their iPods and other supported portable devices or personal computers for listening or viewing anytime and anywhere.

UA faculty will be able to upload audio and enhanced podcasts and videos of lectures and other special materials for their courses. Another advantage is that each podcast can be divided into chapters so students can access a specific section without needing to listen to the whole class.

Anyone may access the public sections of ITunes U at UA to hear and view informative and entertainment programs produced by the University.

Learning Technologies will administer the program through Design and Development Services.

DDS will consult with departments, schools and colleges to promote best practices in podcasting as well as provide information on the equipment needed to record and distribute podcasts. DDS staff also will assist UA faculty in learning to organize and record podcasts and upload them to Apple’s iTunes server for student access.
