What do I need to use iTunesU?
You will need to have a recent version of iTunes installed. The content of iTunesU is both uploaded and retrieved from within iTunes. You can download a free copy for Windows and Macintosh from Apple. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Students
1. Log in to iTunesU at UA with your UANet ID and password. After you log in, iTunes will launch and UA's iTunesU page will appear in the iTunes store.
2. There will be two sections on the welcome page.
The section containing Public Courses and Programs contains publicly available podcasts.
The section labeled Credit Courses will contain the courses that your instructors have placed in iTunesU for you to access. You will only see courses in which you are currently enrolled and in which your instructors have chosen to use iTunesU.
3. Click on the icon for your course and the list of available podcasts will appear under one of the tabs.
4. Double-click on the podcast name that you want to retrieve or click "Get" or "Get Movie" next to its name. You can click on "Get Tracks" near the top of the page to download all of the available podcasts.
5. The downloads may take a several minutes, depending on the size of the audio or video file. You will see a spinning wheel next to the menu bar on the left side of the screen. When the spinning wheel disappears, the download is completed.
6. You can listen to or view each podcast at your convenience. You can also transfer the podcasts to an iPod another supported device.
Instructors
1. Completely fill out the course request form for each course and/or section that you want to place in iTunesU. Include the five-digit class number for each entry.
The five digit number is critical. Your students will not be able to see your course in iTunes if the number is missing or incorrect. You can find the five-digit number of your course in Zipline if you are uncertain.
2. Once your course has been created in iTunesU, you will be notified by e- mail and you may access your courses.
3. Log in to iTunesU at UA with your UANet ID and password. After you log in, iTunes will launch and UA's iTunesU page will appear in the iTunes store.

4. Check the course title and description and report any discrepancies to the iTunesU administrator.
5. You can upload podcasts and other media to your course. The following file types and settings are supported by iTunes:
• Audio – AAC or MP3 with .m4a or .mp3 extensions. Data Rate: 128kbits/sec. Channels: Stereo. Output Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz.
• Video – MPEG-4, H.264 with .mp4, .m4v, or .mov file extensions. The H.264 file type is the best for iPods and is recommended. Data rate: 256kbits/sec Image size: 320 x 240 Frame Rate: 30. Key Frame: every 24 frames.
• PDFs - .pdf extension
6. Users of Windows computers need to convert .wav files to .mp3 files before uploading to iTunes U. Here are instructions for creating .mp3 content.
7. If would like to learn the best practices for creating a podcast or recording audio, or if you would like to know what equipment is recommended, contact a member of Design and Development Services.
8. Once you have created a podcast, enter your class, select the tab you wish to upload into and click on the upload button. Click on the “Add Tracks” button. You can browse to your file and upload it to your course.
9. Uploading may take a several minutes, depending on the size of the audio or video file. You will see the progress in terms of the amount of the file completed. When the spinning wheel disappears, the download is completed.
